What is Ballroom Dancing?

Ballroom dance refers to various partner dances in both the latin and standard/smooth styles which are enjoyed both socially and competitively not only in the U.S., but throughout the world as well.  Its performance and entertainment aspects are enjoyed on stage, in films such as Take the Lead and Mad Hot Ballroom, and on television with shows like Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance.  The competitive side of ballroom dancing, known as Dancesport, includes four styles of dancing: International Latin, International Standard, American Rhythm, and American Smooth. Dancesport competitions are held nationally and internationally, competitors coming from any city, state, country, and continent thought possible.
